austinstatesman:
Police identified the victim of a homicide yesterday and are investigating two other attacks that occurred in the area to see if they are related.
Esmeralda Barrera, a 29-year-old teaching assistant and camp counselor, was found dead in her home Sunday. Barrera worked with special needs children at a local elementary school and was also a counselor at a summer music camp and worked part time at Waterloo Records.
“She was extremely friendly and really talkative, and there was no way that after being around her for 10 minutes that you couldn’t love her,” said Allison Kemp, who worked with Barrera at Waterloo Records.
A sketch of a man who attacked two other women in the same neighborhood has also been released:

He was described by one of the victims as, “a muscular, dark-skinned man between the ages of 30 and 40 who was about 6 feet tall and was last seen wearing a gray hooded jacket with a dark T-shirt and blue jeans.”
If you have any information at all please call call Crime Stoppers at 472-TIPS.
This blog has been set up to accept donations to help Esme’s family defer the cost of funeral expenses. Many venues will also be accepting donations during Free Week this week, and there will be a benefit concert held on Friday, January 13th at Club 1808 on East 12th.
