New comedy festival to feature head ‘SNL’ writer Seth Meyers, Aziz Ansari and Steven Wright

The Austin Theatre Alliance is launching an ambitious comedy festival this spring, one that organizers hope grows into both a major comedy event and a revenue generator for the nonprofit group.

The Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival, planned for April 25-28, is aiming to be the city’s next entertainment tourism draw, joining popular festivals that celebrate music, film and books, and seek to burnish Austin’s reputation in the comedy business.

Please be aware that there is another sketch of the possible suspect in Esme’s murder. The second sketch on the right is from an indecent exposure that happened in this neighborhood on Christmas day. The descriptions are eerily similar.  Please re-post so that everyone in Austin has these features etched into their brain.
I desperately hope they find this man and get him off the streets as fast as possible. Be alert, be aware, and call APD if you have any information.
And ladies in downtown Austin - DO NOT WALK ALONE AT NIGHT and carry pepper spray.

map of austin.

Highly accurate. Even down to the detail of where the sexy people jog—I saw Aimee Teegarden running there once.

Brings back memories of my first year here, living in the South Dallas portion of Austin. Never again.
Also, LOLPERFECT depiction of the entirety of 6th street. I sometimes get too close to that “hipster/crack-head” border.

austinstatesman:

Police identified the victim of a homicide yesterday and are investigating two other attacks that occurred in the area to see if they are related.

Esmeralda Barrera, a 29-year-old teaching assistant and camp counselor, was found dead in her home Sunday. Barrera worked with special needs children at a local elementary school and was also a counselor at a summer music camp and worked part time at Waterloo Records.

“She was extremely friendly and really talkative, and there was no way that after being around her for 10 minutes that you couldn’t love her,” said Allison Kemp, who worked with Barrera at Waterloo Records.

A sketch of a man who attacked two other women in the same neighborhood has also been released:

He was described by one of the victims as, “a muscular, dark-skinned man between the ages of 30 and 40 who was about 6 feet tall and was last seen wearing a gray hooded jacket with a dark T-shirt and blue jeans.”

If you have any information at all please call call Crime Stoppers at 472-TIPS.

This blog has been set up to accept donations to help Esme’s family defer the cost of funeral expenses. Many venues will also be accepting donations during Free Week this week, and there will be a benefit concert held on Friday, January 13th at Club 1808 on East 12th.

Speed limits are going up around Central Texas thanks to changes in state law. Some sections of Interstate-35 north of Austin will be as high as 75 miles per hour.
